{Baghdad: Al-Furat News} The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Iraq's position as Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League.
"Safa al-Safi was nominated for the position of Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and the nomination was unanimously voted on by the Council of Delegates in the Arab League. The draft resolution was also passed through the University Council," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement. At the level of foreign ministers, and the vote was postponed by the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers based on the wishes and wishes of the Secretariat of the Arab League until the completion of formal and legal procedures and authorized the Council of Delegates to hold an extraordinary session for the purpose of approving the appointment of Iraqi and Kuwaiti Secretaries General.
He added that "the Secretary-General of the Arab League and a group of Arab foreign ministers pledged that this position of Iraq's share, and the periodic president announced to the Council that the Secretariat is obliged to complete the formal and legal procedures by the month of April next, and Iraq has maintained its candidate and rejected any attempt to withdraw the nomination."
He pointed out that "the Iraqi Foreign Ministry confirms its adherence to the candidate has submitted a memorandum in this regard to the University, so any talk about withdrawing the candidate of Iraq from this position is an attempt to harm Iraq, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a media campaign broadcast false information and misleading," noting "to prosecute anyone who tries Mislead public opinion or distort facts and abuse their judicial efforts. "
