The Papua New Guinea government has asked Australia to set a deadline for bringing refugees from Manos Island out of the country, while new orders have been issued by the Australian Court to deal with asylum seekers in remote islands who choose to commit suicide in order to get rid of their poor human reality.
According to Australian media, a special team has been set up in Papua New Guinea to negotiate with the Australian Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the resettlement of all refugees detained on the island of Manos in a third country soon, noting that only 84 people have so far been sent out of the 600 Manos Island refugees to the United States under The resettlement agreement between Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and former US President Barack Obama.
Immigration officials and MPs in Papua New Guinea fear not to include a large number of Manaus refugees in the US-Australian deal.
In the context of the difficult humanitarian situation in the Australian detention centers for asylum-seekers, a 10-year-old detained refugee child attempted repeated attempts to commit suicide and end his life while in detention on Nauru Island. He was then transferred to Australia for the required psychiatric care, Will face imminent death risk if left in regional treatment.
Lawyers for the boy applied for a court order to transfer him to higher mental care, while the Department of Internal Affairs, which controls the overseas detention system for refugees, delayed the court order on the grounds that there was adequate health care in the court. The island is to treat the boy, and has asked the court to delay a week-long court hearing.
The boy and his mother, represented by the National Justice Project, were transferred to Australia and the boy was treated.
Australia is following a tough policy to stop illegal immigration to the country, which provides for intercepting and returning smuggled migrants to their places of origin, as well as arresting those arriving at special detention centers on remote islands in the central Pacific. Ending / 25
