    The Ministerial Economic Affairs Committee decided on Tuesday to grant the Ministry of Commerce the authority to negotiate with the specialized companies to provide rice and cooking oil for the purpose of providing ration card items, while taking a number of important economic decisions. 
    "The ministerial economic affairs committee decided at its 11th meeting today, under the chairmanship of Minister of Planning Salman al-Jumaili, to allow the Ministry of Agriculture to import the yellow maize grain during the short period of local production," a statement from the Ministry of Planning said. "Noting that" the decision includes the suspension of imports when there is an abundance of production of this crop enough to meet the local need for feed in order to help farmers and animal breeders to provide feed materials required to support livestock. " 
    The committee also decided to set up a committee headed by a member of the committee, Minister of Industry and Minerals Mohammad Shiaa al-Sudani, to study the problems and obstacles that accompanied the implementation of the Cabinet Resolution 393 of 2017 and the aspects related to the protection and support of the local product. Representatives of the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control, the General Authority for Border Ports, the General Authority of Customs, the Directorate of Fighting Economic Crime, the National Investment Authority, the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Agriculture, Health and Iraqi Exhibitions. 
    He pointed out that "the committee discussed during the session the reality of border ports and customs and the difficulties faced by these parties in the application of regulations and laws on the imposition of customs duties and the control of border ports and mechanisms of import in order to protect the local product and support the national economy," pointing out that "the Commission hosted the head of the border crossings and inspector General of the Ministry of Finance and Director General of the General Authority for Customs, and a number of directors-general in the ministries of planning, trade, oil, industry and minerals. 
    The committee also discussed, according to the statement, "Zubayr sewer project in Basra", recommending the Ministries of Planning and Finance and in coordination with the local government in Basra to "study the status of the project and make recommendations to complete the implementation of the project." 
    The committee decided to "grant the Ministry of Commerce the authority to negotiate with specialized companies to provide rice and cooking oil for the purpose of providing ration card items." 
    "The committee discussed the problems faced by the Iraqi contractors in terms of their contracts with the government," adding that "the Committee decided to approve the recommendations of the Ministry of Planning included addressing a number of problems to a group of companies and resolve these problems to ensure the rights of those companies in line with the regulations and instructions Implementation of Government Contracts "[/ltr]
