Beijing has offered to increase its imports of US goods by about $ 70 billion, provided that Washington gives up its threat to impose strict tariffs on Chinese goods worth $ 50 billion.

A US administration official said on Wednesday that the products included in the offer include additional amounts of soy, natural gas, crude oil and coal.

"No final agreement has been signed between the two sides,

and we do not have any further information at the moment, " a US Commerce Department spokesman said .

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the proposal was presented during the third round of talks last weekend in Beijing between a group of senior Chinese officials led by Liu Hie, the economic adviser to the Chinese president, and an American delegation led by the Minister of Commerce Wilbur Ross.

US exports to China totaled $ 130.36 billion in 2017, according to Ministry of Commerce figures.

If China increases these imports by 70 billion dollars, the total value will increase by more than 53.8 percent.

The US trade deficit with China alone

exceeds $ 375 billion in 2017. The White House is demanding Beijing cut it by 200 billion, which China rejects.

China warned that "if the United States imposed trade sanctions, including through tariff increases, then all the results of trade and economic negotiations between the two countries would be nullified."

Last week, Trump's administration revealed that it was continuing to work on punitive measures against China, despite a May 19 truce on trade dispute between the two countries.
