The United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nicky Haley, has accused Bashar al-Assad's government of violating the truce in the zone of reducing escalation in southwestern Syria.

"The Syrian regime stepped up military operations within the zone of reducing escalation in southwestern Syria, agreed by Jordan, Russia and the United States," said a statement posted on the US mission to the United Nations.

Washington considered the escalation a blatant violation of the agreement to reduce the escalation in the south-west and threatens to expand the conflict and increase the displacement of civilians.

"We must expect Russia to play its role to promote and respect the truce it helped establish, use its influence to stop the Syrian regime's violations and any subsequent steps that destabilize the south-west and all of Syria," said Haley in the statement. Russia will take responsibility for any subsequent escalation in Syria. "
