    (Encyclopedia of this Day News | Iraq News ) - South Korea said on Tuesday it had decided to cancel the war exercises annually to mobilize government employees this year were conducted in the framework of joint military exercises with the United States were suspended, but will conduct military exercises individually to maintain readiness.

    The Minister of Safety and Defense announced in a statement to the media today.

    The South Korean presidential office said suspension of joint exercises could facilitate ongoing nuclear talks between North Korea and the United States.

    The two ministers said South Korea will develop a new model of training aimed at combating militancy and major natural disasters.

    "Our army will conduct a single planned exercise this year and decide on joint exercises in consultation with the United States," Defense Minister Song Yongmu said.

    The Pentagon estimated Monday that President Donald Trump's decision to cancel joint military exercises with South Korea would save about $ 14 million.

    The United States has about 28,500 troops in South Korea and regularly organizes joint training exercises with South Korean troops.

    About 17,500 US troops were supposed to take part in the two-week Ulche Freidon Guardian exercise. 

    The exercises also include simulated computer command training, which Pyongyang condemns as training to invade its territory.
