Assad: Our goal is Idlib and the fate of "White Helmets" surrender or liquidation

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed in an interview with Russian media that the current priority of the regime is to regain control of the province of Idlib (northwest).
Assad also urged millions of Syrians who have left the country since the conflict began in 2011 to return to Syria despite the war.
The bulk of the city of Idlib is under the control of the Sham Liberation Organization (former Nasra Front) and limited presence of other factions.
After a violent attack at the end of last year, Syrian forces took control of dozens of villages and towns in its southeastern countryside.
"Our goal now is Idlib, although it is not the only goal," Assad said. "There are, of course, land in eastern Syria controlled by diverse groups. That's why we're going to go to all these areas, the military will set priorities, and Idleb is one of them. "
Da'ash fighters continue to be deployed in some desert enclaves in eastern Syria along the border with Iraq, while Syrian forces have recently regained control of al-Ghouta near Damascus.
"We have finished the liberation of al-Ghouta and we will complete the liberation of the southwestern parts of Syria" near the border with Jordan and Israel, where hundreds of "white helmets" - elements of civil defense in the areas of the Syrian opposition factions - have been suspended.
Last Sunday, 422 members of the White Helmets and their families arrived in Jordan after Tel Aviv took them from southern Syria and were later received by Britain, Germany, Canada and France. But the White Helmets said some 650 of its members were still stranded in southern Syria.
"Either they throw the weapons in the framework of the amnesty that has been in place for four or five years, or they are liquidated like the rest of the terrorists," Assad said.
