    Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Sunday stressed the depth of the relationship with Iran and the importance of preserving it.
    "The Prime Minister and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces held a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security today," Abadi's office said in a statement.
    "With regard to the relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the depth of the relations between the two countries and the great interests that bind them and the importance of preserving them," the statement added.
    "The Security Council rejected the misinterpretation and politicized statements of Iraq's official position condemning the policy of starvation of the peoples expressed by Abbadi," he said, stressing "the importance of maintaining privileged relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran."
    He pointed out that "discussed the control of the Iraqi-Turkish border and confirm the decision of the Council of Ministers of National Security to control the Iraqi-Turkish border through the command border operations and prevent the infiltration of any groups through them."
