    DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) - Iranian President Hassan Rowhani said he agreed with his Iraqi counterpart Barham Salih on Saturday to set up a free trade area between the two countries and start a joint industry, calling on joint committees to follow up on the issue with keen interest.

    Barham Saleh arrived at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport on Saturday morning and was received by Industry, Mining and Trade Minister Reza Rahmani.

    In an interview with Iran's official IRNA news agency, Rowhani stressed the continuation of political, economic and cultural relations between Iran and Iraq and the possibility of raising the level of economic relations between the two countries to 20 billion dollars in the near future, compared to 12 billion dollars currently.

    The relations between the two countries were discussed today between the Iranian and Iraqi delegations, the two sides emphasize the continuation of political, economic and cultural relations, there is more capacity to develop relations between the two countries," the Iranian president said during a joint press conference with the Iraqi president.

    Rohani pointed out that he talked with the Iraqi president about the exchange of electricity, gas and oil products between the two countries, as well as joint work in the field of oil exploration and extraction.

    He said that the two sides discussed the issue of linking the two countries to a railway line in the west and south, in particular the Shalmaja railway line to Basra, which has been prepared by the Iraqi Ministry of Finance. The Iranian company will soon start work, which will facilitate the transit of passengers and goods between the two countries. Warranty and convenient.

    During the press conference, Iraqi President Barham Salih said, "We have directed our foreign ministers and industry to activate their work to enhance cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries."

    The establishment of free trade areas between the two countries is important, and linking the railway lines between the two countries will greatly help in the process of transporting visitors to Iraq and, most importantly, the implementation of these measures, will pay attention to the economic infrastructure of the two countries.
