    The General Secretariat of the Union of Arab Journalists stressed the importance of protecting and safeguarding media freedoms, calling upon the Arab states and their governments to enact laws, regulations and regulations that entrench the freedom of media and pluralism in the Arab world.
    In a statement issued by the Secretariat of the Secretariat, the General Secretariat of the Federation met with the President of the Union Muayyad Al-Lami in Damascus on 25-26 of this month and the presence of the Chairman of the Freedoms Committee Abdul Wahab Al-Zghailat and the President of the Union of Syrian Journalists, Younis Mujahid discussed the agenda, especially the reality of freedoms in the Arab world, the status of the paper press and the challenges it faces as well as the future plans and programs of the Union and strengthen the relationship with the International Federation.
    The General Secretariat decided to launch a broad campaign to protect and preserve media freedoms and called upon all Arab countries and their governments to enact laws, legislation and regulations that would establish freedom of information and pluralism in the Arab world.
    And considered that the essence of the work of the Union is the freedom of the media and the consolidation of the concepts of pluralism and commitment to the highest standards that guarantee the free access to information and the violation of these freedoms.
    The General Secretariat unanimously adopted the administrative and financial reports of the Secretary-General, Khalid Miri, and Nasser Abu Bakr, Vice-President of the Financial Union.
    The General Secretariat decided to adopt the report of the Freedoms Committee after reviewing the report of the Liberties Committee submitted by the committee chairman Abdelwahab Al-Zghailat on the reality of the freedom of the media and its obstacles, as well as the violations that must be stopped against journalists and rejecting the policy of arrest and muzzle.
    The General Secretariat of the Union also decided to update and develop the work and performance of the Freedoms Committee in accordance with a comprehensive plan to be submitted by the Committee to the Secretariat based on international professional standards.
    In the context of the difficulties faced by the paper press, it was decided to organize a conference and workshop in cooperation with the Arab League early next year to come up with effective recommendations by editors from all Arab countries to preserve this important heritage in the history of Arab media and protect the rights of journalists working in this sector.
    The General Secretariat, after studying the reality of the electronic press and the new media, decided to hold workshops and symposia and coordinate with the International Federation of Journalists in order to keep abreast of this technological development by qualifying the Arab press cadres, especially the youth sector. And professional them.
    As for the development of the work of the Union, it was decided to form a committee to formulate a strategic action plan that will contribute to the development of the mechanisms of the Union and activate its effectiveness at all levels and for three short, medium and long term stages.
    The Union called on the Arab media to promote pluralism, the language of constructive dialogue and stop the media campaigns that deepen the division, as well as the commitment not to promote the discourse of hatred, violence and extremism.
    The General Secretariat adopted a series of measures related to the development of the Union's work, enhancing its professional role in Arab and international forums and strengthening the relationship and partnership with the International Federation of Journalists.
    The General Secretariat reviewed the Israeli aggressions and crimes against the Palestinian people, especially journalists, the latest of which was the attack on the delegations of the Arab and international federations at the entrance of the capital city of Palestine and the continuation of legal proceedings against the perpetrators of the Israeli crimes against Palestinian journalists.
    The General Secretariat decided to form a committee to establish a complete database to document the cases of martyrs and wounded and to prosecute criminals and not to be exempted from punishment by communicating with international organizations for referral to the judiciary.
    The Secretariat listened to the report of the Union of Syrian Journalists on the crimes of terrorism against the Syrian media and journalists, which claimed the lives of more than fifty martyrs of the press and dozens of wounded and blocking satellite broadcasting.
    He called on the Union to stop the media siege and sanctions on the Syrian media institutions.
    The Secretariat also welcomed the accession of the Union of Syrian Journalists to the membership of the International Federation and its commitment to the standards of the Union.
    The Secretariat praised the Syrian people's victory over terrorism and blessed the atmosphere of peace and love that prevails in Syria.
    The Federation agreed to adopt the membership of the Djiboutian Journalists Syndicate and invite them to participate in the meetings of the next Permanent Bureau.
    The General Secretariat of the Union expressed its thanks and appreciation to the Union of Syrian Journalists and to the Syrian people and their leadership for hospitality and reception
