Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawishoglu said on Thursday that the region's problems were caused by the US withdrawal from Iraq, accusing Washington of handing over Iraq to then-Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to marginalize the Sunnis and the emergence of a pro-Western organization.
Speaking at a meeting with a number of journalists following a meeting of foreign ministers of the countries of the international coalition to combat the organization of the call, held in Washington, DC.
"The source of the problems facing the Middle East today, is the withdrawal of the United States from Iraq without coordination or a court plan, indicating that the withdrawal was a real mistake."
"When Washington withdrew from Iraq, the country was handed over to Nuri al-Maliki, and the latter marginalized a large slice of Iraq. So Iraq entered a state of chaos, and elements of this chaos took advantage of and managed to control 40 percent of Iraqi territory."
