The Libyan embassy in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, has announced the suspension of all its operations starting today, Sunday, for security reasons.
The Libyan embassy said in a press statement: “The Libyan embassy in Cairo announces to the Libyan citizens residing and the Libyan community in the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt that it has suspended the work of the embassy due to security conditions, as of Sunday, December 15, 2019 until further notice.”
In another context, a member of the Supreme Council of State in Libya (based in Tripoli) criticized yesterday, Saturday, the Egyptian Parliament Speaker’s statements regarding Cairo as the Libyan Parliament, east of the country, the sole legitimate representative of Libya, stressing that Egypt wants to exercise what he described as “guardianship of Libya. ”
"Unfortunately, the state of Egypt wants to exercise the role of hegemony and guardianship of us through military coups, and this is what we will never allow," said Belkacem Abdel Qader Dabars, member of the council.
Dabars continued: "The State of Egypt, although it is a neighbor, and we have close relations with it, close ties and intermarriage ties, and also an economic partnership, but it is the country that has harmed us the most and has fought our revolution through which we look to a civil state, a state of constitution and institutions, a sovereign state."
Debre’s remarks came in response to the confirmation of the Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, Ali Abdel-Al, that his country considers the Libyan Parliament, which is based in Tobruk and chaired by Aqila Saleh, (and supported by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar), as a single legal body representing the people of Libya. Ended / 25
