(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The Iraqi market witnessed, one day before the imposition of a comprehensive curfew in all of Iraq last week, an attack by citizens to buy what they need during these days, so the prices of foodstuffs, fruits and vegetables increased to more than double, as a result of the growing demand.
But the prices returned to normal after one day as a result of the intervention of the economic security, which arrested more than 23 merchants who raised the prices of goods, in addition to imposing great control on medical warehouses, pharmacies, home gas sales stations, and others.
And the Iraqi market now looks almost deserted for fear of contagion between people, as citizens prefer buying their needs from the stores near them.
Member of Parliamentary Finance Committee Ahmed Al-Hajj says, "The state does not care about citizens and people with limited income."
Al-Hajj stressed that "the monetary policy supervised by the Central Bank is independent and should interfere in supporting the economy by pumping an amount of foreign reserves of $ 87 billion to reduce the burden on the citizens."
He noted that "the poor class is the most affected by the absence of government support."
But the spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, said that "the Economic Security Agency intervened to restore prices to normal," adding that "the ministry provides more than 70% support to farmers, which contributes to lowering prices."
However, the merchant Saif Al-Dulaimi said, "The state places an obstacle in front of the merchants, which is the closure of border ports and ports, which contributes to the damage of goods," noting that "the roads are closed between the provinces, and it is very difficult to transport foodstuffs and this may raise prices again if it continues The crisis is long and scarcity of supply in the markets of goods and goods. "
As for the citizen Ali Mohan, he said that the prices of foodstuffs rose very slightly.
