The Ministry of Transport announced, on Thursday, that its Minister Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli will hold talks with the Saudi ambassador to Baghdad, Abdulaziz bin Khaled, regarding the possibility of opening a sea transport line between the two countries, and an air line with Dammam, Jeddah and Madinah airports.

A statement of the ministry, which Alsumaria News received a copy of, said that Al-Shibli "met the Saudi ambassador to Iraq, Abdulaziz bin Khalid Al-Shamroukhi, to discuss cooperation between the two countries in all areas of sea, land and air transport," indicating that the minister "discussed the possibility of opening a maritime transport between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, as well as proposing an agreement." Opening the air route with Dammam Airport, in addition to Jeddah and Madinah airports.

The statement added that "the Saudi ambassador expressed Saudi Arabia's support for Iraq in the field of activating transport in other sectors, and also presented an official invitation to the Minister of Transport to visit the Kingdom," noting that Al-Shibli "welcomed the invitation and presented the ministry's shield as a souvenir to His Excellency the ambassador."

The statement quoted Al-Shibli as saying that "the ministry, with its new approach, seeks to open up to neighboring countries," adding that "a committee has been formed to adopt a new mechanism to accelerate the opening of the Arar border crossing between Iraq and Saudi Arabia and to enhance cooperation between the two countries."

Al-Shibli pointed out that "the crossing will be an important point for trade exchange and transporting travelers from Umrah and Hajj pilgrims as soon as service for both sides."
