Yesterday, Sunday, the Governmental Performance Follow-up Committee demanded that Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the advanced team responsible for the health file be hosted in the House of Representatives to clarify the causes of a fire in Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, criticizing the delay in holding the special session until tomorrow.
The head of the committee, Deputy Hazem Al-Khalidi, said in a statement to (the extent), "The House of Representatives, as the highest legislative and oversight body, is concerned with holding accountable those who fall short in the Ibn Al-Khatib hospital fire."
Al-Khalidi added, "The extraordinary parliament session was supposed to take place yesterday, and it will not be postponed until (today)," calling for "hosting Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and the ministers and officials concerned with the health file to find out from them the causes of the accident."
And Khalidi believed, "one of the most important things is to hold the extraordinary session of the House of Representatives, on condition that it be public so that the public opinion is informed of the results of the investigations and the diagnosis of negligence."
He explained, "The health file in general is witnessing a significant decline, in terms of the services provided, and even in terms of the connection that health institutions work on two wings, sometimes with the Ministry of Health, and at other times with local administrations in the governorates, and this should be addressed through the House of Representatives."
Al-Khalidi stressed, "The committee had previously provided an evaluation of the government's work, and we suggested to it, as is the case in many countries of the world, to establish oxygen centers inside hospitals and not to use these bottles that caused the fire."
Al-Khalidi went on to say that "the presence of the companions in hospital rooms and corridors is also a major failure," and he regrets that "the prime minister, the minister of health, or other officials in this sector, were not present in the hospital after the accident, and left the rescue of victims to civilians."
