On Friday, the Ministry of Finance denied allocating funds for those whose contracts were canceled from the Popular Mobilization Forces, the Interior, and Defense within the General Budget Law for 2021.
The official news agency published a statement by the ministry, on May 7, indicating that "Table (B) attached to the General Budget Law that Parliament voted and entered into force did not include any allocations for those whose contracts had been canceled."
The ministry confirmed, "The allocations of the Popular Mobilization Authority came only to secure the cost of more than 169 thousand fighters on the basis of a total monthly salary of one million and 400 thousand dinars for each member and did not include the return of those whose contracts had been avoided."
She also explained, "The remaining amount of 22 billion dinars was allocated to pay the dues of the Al-Abbas combat division, according to the recommendations of the committee formed by the Prime Minister's Office and approved by the Prime Minister."
Crowds of Popular Mobilization employees who had canceled their contracts demonstrated near the Finance Ministry in the capital, Baghdad, on Sunday, May 2, calling for their return, before they were dispersed by force, causing casualties.
