Shafaq News / The Economy and Investment Committee in the Iraqi Parliament confirmed, on Thursday, that the Ministry of Trade had failed to provide the citizen with the ration card items during the month of Ramadan, indicating that the best solution to the ration card problem is the monetary allowance.
The Ministry of Trade, during the last period, and the month of Ramadan in particular, had slowed down the distribution of the ration card items, which became only four items, including rice, sugar, oil and flour.
Committee member Nada Shaker Jawdat stated, to Shafaq News, that "the Ministry of Trade failed to provide the citizen with the ration card items during the month of Ramadan," indicating that "they were supposed to provide citizens with an additional share with the original share, except that neither the original share nor the support that they announced. Ramadan is over. "
"The best solution to reduce existing corruption is to grant a cash allowance, and this allowance is determined through a meeting of the Council of Ministers, an Economic Council, and a group of people representing popular bodies," Jawdat added.
She pointed out that "what the Ministry of Trade announced that it will distribute paste and legumes within the items of the ration card is of no benefit, especially if we know that it came with a corruption deal in which people and parties benefit from this aspect."
"As a result of these matters, we will direct an inquiry to the Ministry of Commerce and host its minister in the House of Representatives," Jawdat emphasized, pointing out that "all the ministers, whether trade, industry and agriculture, did not do anything that would achieve the citizen's welfare."
She noted that "the percentage of deprivation in Iraq has risen dramatically, while Iraq is an oil-rich country and is rich in everything, not only oil, but there are minerals and it has two rivers, arable land and human beings," stressing that "this deprivation began to rise day after day as a result of corruption."
On May 7, Trade Minister Alaa al-Jubouri announced the addition of tomato paste and legumes to the ration card items that will be distributed to citizens during the coming months.
