TRANSFERRING THE DEMANDS OF THE DEMONSTRATORS THROUGH THE HEAD OF THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL TO THE PRESIDENCIES, AFTER THEIR MEETING YESTERDAY

Thursday, May 27, 2021 9:01 PM

The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faeq Zaidan, announced today, Thursday, the transfer of the requests of the representatives of the demonstrators, after their meeting yesterday, to the three presidencies during the meeting held today.
The council’s media office stated, in a statement followed by the National News Center, that “Judge Zeidan attended the meeting of the three authorities that was called by the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, in the presence of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi.”
The statement added, “The meeting stressed the need to respect the decisions issued by the judiciary and respect the procedures of state institutions in legal accountability, not to be subjected to decisions of the judiciary outside the constitutional frameworks, and to adhere to legal procedures and contexts exclusively, in order to uphold the rule of law and the principle of citizenship in a state that protects its people and guarantees the rights of all Citizens without discrimination ”.
He pointed out that "the meeting also confirmed the holding of parliamentary elections next October, which are of great importance as they come after a popular movement calling for reform."
And he indicated that "the President of the Supreme Judicial Council transmitted the requests of the representatives of the demonstrators, whom the representative of the Supreme Judicial Council met on the evening of Tuesday, the twenty-fifth of this month."
