The Minister of Justice, Salar Abdul Sattar Muhammad, discussed, on Friday, with the Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, the issue of the embezzled funds of the Baghdad Municipality, amounting to five million and seven hundred thousand dollars, and working to restore them to the Iraqi state treasury.
The ministry's media said in a statement that "Justice Minister, Judge Salar Abdul Sattar Muhammad, and his accompanying delegation, met the Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, Ziad Fariz, and discussed with him prospects for cooperation and coordination between the two sides."
And the ministry's media indicated that "the two sides reviewed, during the meeting, the issue of the embezzled funds of the Baghdad Municipality, amounting to five million dollars and seven hundred thousand dollars, and working to restore them to the Iraqi state treasury in accordance with the laws and regulations in force between the two brotherly countries."
Muhammad praised, according to the statement, "the important steps of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, during his meeting with his brother King Abdullah, the necessity of perpetuating the brotherhood, extending bridges of communication in all fields, and the depth of the historical relationship between the Central Bank of Iraq and Jordan."
Muhammad confirmed that he is discussing in Amman “the issue of recovering Iraqi funds and that he is adopting this issue through the establishment of an international conference to recover these funds in the middle of next September, which is the right of the Iraqi people and the right must be returned to its people.”
For his part, the Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan welcomed the minister's visit, expressing his "great cooperation with the Ministry of Justice in recovering these funds in coordination with the relevant authorities in the Jordanian Ministry of Justice and the Jordanian Judicial Council."
