And the ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Abadi, told Al-Furat News that: "A proposal to change the name of the Ministry of Electricity was put forward after a series of contracts made by the ministry with renewable and clean energy companies."
He stressed: "The ministry has proceeded with the projects that have been contracted, and it has become imperative to establish a center for renewable energy that will deal with and follow up on those projects."
Last Wednesday, the Ministry of Electricity signed an agreement of principles with the Chinese company Power China regarding the establishment of solar power plants with a capacity of 2000 megawatts, to be implemented with a capacity of 750 megawatts as a first stage, up to a capacity of 2000 megawatts.
The solar energy project is one of the first pilot projects in Iraq and is being implemented for the first time. The project will contribute to increasing the production of electrical energy, to supply the system with clean renewable energy.
