"We are committed to the foundations of the agreement concluded with Russia and are waiting for the opposite party to assume its responsibilities related to the agreement," Akar said in response to reporters' questions on Monday after a meeting of the Turkish government.
The Turkish Defense Minister saw in the raids on sites in Idlib governorate, northwest Syria, "a reason for the increase in migration and the rise of extremism among the residents of the region."
Regarding coordination between his country and Russia in the region, Akar confirmed the existence of a precise mechanism there, and channels of communication between the two countries.
On issues east of the Euphrates, the Turkish Defense Minister stated that his country has parallel memoranda of understanding with Russia and the United States, adding: "We agreed on the withdrawal of terrorists, but unfortunately their presence is still there."
Akar stressed that Turkey will not allow any danger or threat to it in the south of the country, stressing on the other hand, "respect for the security of the borders of neighboring countries and their sovereign rights, foremost of which are Syria and Iraq."
In response to a journalist's question about the possibility of launching an operation against terrorists with Iraq, and whether there is contact in this regard, the Turkish Defense Minister confirmed that he is in contact with the Iraqi Defense Minister.
Akar said in this regard: "We continue to work to cooperate with them in border security, and a delegation arrived from Iraq in the past weeks, and we explained to them how we secured the borders through the physical security system of the borders in Hatay province," located in southern Turkey.
The Turkish minister indicated that the Iraqi side is looking for what can be done about its borders with Syria, and "we told them that we can help them," noting that his country's relations with Iraq continue in a friendly manner.
