The Chairman of the Council of Advisors in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Abdul Karim Al-Faisal, revealed, on Monday, the formation of a team of 4 government agencies to remove radioactive pollutants, while referring to the movement towards the Arab Atomic Energy Organization.
Al-Faisal said in an interview with the official news agency, Mawazine News, that "the Prime Minister agreed to the proposal of the advisory body to start a large national program to remove all radioactive pollutants left from the previous regime," noting that "the Prime Minister ordered the formation of a national team under the supervision of a commission." Consultants, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and the main supervisory body represented by the Radiation Protection Center at the Ministry of Environment.
He added, "The team developed a plan in accordance with the standards of the International Atomic Energy Organization to remove radioactive pollutants, and the Basra Governorate was started because of the largest places of contamination in it, amounting to more than 28 places," noting that "the team announced earlier that Basra was free of radioactive contamination."
He pointed out that "the advisory board and the Minister of Higher Education decided to approach the Arab Atomic Energy Organization to communicate with the technical teams and visit Iraq to see the efforts made, as well as to enhance Arab cooperation in this field and to see the implementation of international standards," stressing, "There will be steps for leaders of the national team to work in other governorates according to the percentage of pollution in them.
And he indicated, "The Director-General of the Arab Atomic Energy Organization will personally, within a program prepared for him with the Governor of Basra, announce that Basra is free of radioactive contamination, and inform the International Agency of this," noting that "Iraq is a pioneer in this field and has experience since the sixties working in the field of energy." atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
