Today, Tuesday (June 25, 2024), the Electricity Committee of the Baghdad Provincial Council described the Ministry of Electricity as a “black box,” while confirming that it failed to improve the electricity situation during the current summer season.
The head of the committee, Noura Al-Juhaishi, said, “The Ministry of Electricity during the current summer failed to manage the crisis of providing energy to citizens, and we are monitoring the ministry’s work and there are major failures and observations on the electricity distribution and production departments in the capital, Baghdad. There is a decline in performance, in addition to the failure to meet appeals.” Citizens and other problems.”
Al-Jahishi added, “We now consider the Ministry of Electricity to be a ‘black box’ because it does not provide us with any details regarding their work and plans despite all its failures, and the current summer is the worst in terms of electricity supply, contrary to what the ministry promised that this summer would be better than the past.”
All Iraqi governorates are complaining about the decline in electricity supply this season compared to last summer, despite the Ministry of Electricity’s announcement of raising production in larger quantities than last year, while the Ministry of Electricity justifies this decline by the deterioration of distribution networks and high consumption.
Over the past two decades, Iraq has spent more than 80 billion dollars on electricity, which could provide approximately 70,000 megawatts, but Iraq’s current production amounts to only 25,000 megawatts at best.
