High-ranking military sources revealed that the Council of Ministers approved a plan to purchase Turkish Bayraktar TB2 bomber drones, with an amount of nearly $100 million, as part of the Iraqi army’s armament budget.

The sources said that about two weeks ago, the Council of Ministers approved a number of amendments to the armament plans related to the air force, including approving a plan to purchase Turkish drones, as part of the Iraqi air combat effort aimed at securing the desert and mountainous areas, especially the Iraqi-Syrian border. She confirmed that the trend came on the recommendation of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense to the Council of Ministers, and it is likely that an Iraqi military delegation will head to Ankara during the coming period to discuss the issue with Turkish officials.
If the deal is completed, it will be the first of its kind between Iraq and Turkey in the military field, as the Iraqi military arsenal for the past decades has been limited in this field to Russian, American and Eastern European weapons.
