The Ministry of Transport announced, Thursday, the reduction of fees for the process of exporting gold, while it decided to adopt Basra International Airport as a third port for importing this precious metal.
This came during the meeting of the 12 Border Ports Authority, which was chaired by Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, and in which the General Company for Land Transport, represented by its General Manager, Mortada Karim Al-Shahmani, and the Director of Offices, Engineer Hussein Abdul Ali, participated, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport today, Thursday.
The statement quoted Al-Shahmani as saying: The meeting included several axes, including discussing the mechanism of implementing Cabinet Resolution No. 455 of 2021, which includes changing the body for implementing projects for the development and reconstruction of border crossings, limiting them to the governorates, and reconstructing them according to advanced designs to meet all the requirements of the operating departments from sonar examination devices for bags and wheels. Drug screening devices, support for K9 detachments, and tight control over the entry of tourist wheels and ensuring their exit.
He added that the meeting discussed the controls for importing gold through the Baghdad and Najaf international airports and the directive to reduce fees for each (kg) gold that is re-exported and to allow exit in quantities commensurate with the importer, and the Council expressed no objection to the approval of the Basra International Airport port to enter gold, similar to the mentioned ports.
