Earth News/ The Ministry of Planning revealed, today, Sunday, its plans to address poverty in Iraq, noting that it relied on 3 tracks to solve this crisis.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in an interview with Earth News, "There are government efforts being made within the framework of poverty indicators by working to implement the poverty reduction strategy, which started from 2018 to 2022, as well as the five-year development plan 2018 to 2022."
He added that "the ministry had previously launched a plan for reform and recovery from the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic," noting that "this plan is complementary to the five-year development plan 2018-2022, which contributes to supporting vulnerable segments of society through three tracks."
Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the first track is the economic track and the economic axis, and it contains a set of policies in relation to supporting the private sector, providing a better environment for investment and supporting the overall economy."
He explained that "the second track is the social axis, which includes supporting social policies with regard to health and education, as well as supporting vulnerable groups, achieving social cohesion, empowering women and the return of the displaced."
Al-Hindawi continued, "The third track is the spatial axis, which is based on working to address development gaps within the map prepared by the Ministry of Planning for marking development gaps in the governorates."
Al-Hindawi concluded his speech by saying that “the ministry is working on preparing the third version of the poverty reduction strategy in the country for the years 2023 and 2027, and all this fact comes in light of the vision of the relationship of sustainable development until 2030, which focuses on combating poverty, combating hunger, supporting health and supporting education.”
And a report issued by the United Nations, last year, suggested that the poverty rate in Iraq would rise between seven and 14 percent, after the Iraqi government's decision to reduce the value of the dinar and the accompanying rise in food prices.
