    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Mujasha' Al-Tamimi commented on Wednesday (October 6, 2024) on the impact of Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections on Iraq during the next stage.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Trump's policy is different in dealing with crises. For example, Iraq is one of the countries that is affected by any confusion that occurs between the Iranian axis and the American axis. Therefore, I expect that the Trump era will be more difficult in dealing with the Iranian file than the Democrats, and thus there will be consequences for the situation in Iraq as it is a country neighboring Iran."
He added, "There are also large imports that Iraq imports in US dollars from Iran, so the Iraqi government will face American pressure in the issue of dollar smuggling, in addition to pressures related to the movements of Iraqi factions that always target American interests in Iraq, but in the end Trump always resorts to deals in his foreign policies, so I assume that there will be a deal between the Islamic Republic and Trump in the issue of resolving problems between the two countries because Iran is a rational country and has accurate calculations in anticipating the future, so a reformist president came to Iran with a foreign minister known for his experience in the field of American affairs."
The political researcher said, "If there is an agreement between Washington and Tehran, Iraq will be safe, and it is necessary for the Iraqi government to have sovereignty in its central decisions, especially those related to relations with the United States of America, away from the multiplicity of decisions related to political forces and armed groups."
Republican candidate Donald Trump announced his victory in the US presidential election from the stage of the Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida on Wednesday.
"I thank the American people for electing me to be the 47th president," Trump said.
He continued: "We achieved a political victory that our country has never witnessed before."
"We won the swing states, we made history tonight and this is a political victory, we will begin the golden age of the United States," Trump said.
