The Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed, on Monday, that Hoshyar Zebari is its only candidate for the presidency.
A member of the negotiating delegation in the Democratic Party, Rinas Jano, said in an interview with the official agency, that "his party believes in the democratic process and rules by the provisions of the Iraqi law and the judiciary in its various branches and types," pointing out that "the loyalty order issued against Hoshyar Zebari does not affect the original right, but rather an order of my loyalty until a decision is made." The final report and confirmation of the charges against Hoshyar Zebari.
He added, "We have more than evidence that Zebari is innocent, as when he was nominated, his name was subject to scrutiny and verification, whether by the Integrity and Justice Commission or the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as the existing criminal facts. He passed all these stages and was then named a candidate for the presidency by the Iraqi parliament, stressing that "what is going on now is a political game played by competitors, as they are afraid of the match in parliament because they know very well that Zebari will win."
He pointed out that "these methods are more political than legal, as the nomination doors have been closed, and whoever explains that there is room for changing candidates, this is an illegal interpretation, and needs a legal and constitutional outlet for re-nomination," noting that "the Democrat submitted only one candidate, Hoshyar Zebari.
