, the Digital Media Center warned, on Tuesday, of the leakage of millions of personal data of Iraqis, while calling for the adoption of a government program that takes it upon itself to implement specific standards to deal with digital waste in government institutions.
In a statement received by Mawazine News, the center said, "Computers in government institutions often contain important and sensitive information, and as a result of continuous modernization and development, they may be replaced, and the old ones are treated as ordinary waste that is disposed of without being subject to special processes that guarantee that it will not be retrieved." Stored information in case it is taken over by others.
The center added, "Even if the data is deleted by the usual methods, many parties can retrieve the information contained within the hard disks and thus exploit it in one way or another to achieve certain gains, even if these disks are damaged or destroyed."
