The former deputy and member of the Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee, Ghaleb Muhammad Ali, revealed the quantities of fuel that the region produces daily, pointing out that the two ruling families in Kurdistan control the file of oil and prices.
Ali told "The Information", "The Kurdistan Region and in 2015 issued a decision through the Ministry of Oil of the Region to lift subsidies on gasoline, and today the fuel in Kurdistan is not governmental but commercial, so that its price changes with the rise and fall in the value of crude oil."
He explained that "Kurdistan produces more than 500 thousand barrels of crude oil daily and has more than 200 illegal refineries, and there are 3 legal refineries in Sulaymaniyah, Erbil and Dohuk, and therefore the government is able to solve the problem of the high price of fuel in the region."
And he indicated that "the local production of gasoline in the region is up to 80 percent, but there are companies belonging to the two ruling families in the region, such as the Kar company, which belongs to the Barzani family, which works on refining gasoline in Erbil, and the refinery of this company can produce more than 200 thousand barrels per day, but it gives We are directed to companies belonging to the same family, and therefore they sell products at a high price to the citizen.”
He added, "The Qaiwan Company affiliated to the Taliban family in Sulaymaniyah, its refinery produces more than 40 thousand barrels per day, as it works to buy part of this quantity from the regional government to work on liquidating it and selling it at high prices to the citizens, so the solution to the problem of high fuel is in the hands of the government."
