The Ministry of Planning considered the population increase in Iraq to be normal, indicating that there is a normal increase of one million people annually compared to the total population.
Ministry spokesman Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi said in a radio interview followed by (Al-Mada), that "the birth rate in Iraq, despite its decline compared to the past ten years, is still high."
Al-Hindawi added, "Last year, about 1.3 million births were recorded, and in 2020, we recorded one million 250 thousand cases."
He pointed out that "the annual increase rates, according to the approved percentage, which is 2.6%, should range from 850 thousand people to one million people, but sometimes we cross this barrier, as happened in the past two years."
Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the rates of increase, although they are high, are still normal compared to the population of more than 40 million people, and if we say that there is an annual increase of one million people, this is normal."
Al-Hindawi went on to say, "The development of a set of long-term population policies to accommodate these increases and do not constitute a burden on reality or development in order to be dealt with by providing the requirements of life, especially young people, while providing services represented in health, education and housing."
