Agriculture grants loans to purchase modern irrigation systems

Today, Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the intention to contract modern irrigation systems with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, while revealing that loans with an interest rate of 5% were granted to purchase these systems.
Undersecretary of the Ministry, Mahdi Sahar al-Jubouri, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency and followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", "If Iraq is exposed to any drought year or lack of water revenues, the summer agricultural plan will be affected by this," noting that "there is a tendency to contract to purchase modern irrigation techniques from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
He added, "A meeting took place with the Turkish ambassador at the ministry's headquarters regarding a partnership contract and equipping the Ministry of Agriculture with the irrigation techniques it needs," noting that "the Cabinet's decision for the year 2022 encouraged the purchase of irrigation techniques."
And he continued, "There are one-time loans that will be provided to those who buy modern irrigation systems at an interest rate of 5%," explaining, "Iraq is one of the developed countries using wells and groundwater, but the patience that took place from the Ministry of Water Resources in preventing the use of wells for agriculture had a negative impact on agricultural sector".
And he stressed, "The Ministry of Water Resources recommended waiting in granting licenses to wells in agricultural areas."
