Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Commerce confirmed the difficulty of controlling local market prices.
The ministry's spokesman, Muhammad Hanoun, said, in a statement to the official news agency, that "the security and control agencies in the Ministry of Commerce succeeded in seizing 40 merchants who worked to exploit the crisis and raise prices."
Regarding oil prices, Hanoun commented, "Oil prices are concerned with the global stock market and the crisis of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, but the measures taken by the Ministry of Commerce through a company investing in the food basket sector helped provide this substance to a large segment of citizens through the ration card."
He added, "It is very difficult to control the prices of the local market," noting that "the Iraqi market is an open market, and government directions and laws are to open markets and not to interfere."
