, Minister of Electricity, Adel Karim, announced today, Wednesday, an agreement with the Iranian side to supply Iraq with (50) million cubic meters per day of gas, while noting that the Qatari will arrive via ships.
Karim said that "it was agreed with the Iranian side to supply Iraq with fifty million cubic meters per day of gas," noting that "Iraq needs Iranian gas between 5-10 years, and the matter depends on finding the required alternatives to reduce the number of years."
He added, "Iran needs gas more in winter than in summer," noting that "in this season, it can provide the quantities required by Iraq."
He added, "Iran now supplies us between 35-38 million cubic meters of gas per day," explaining that "Iraq owes Iran 1.692 billion dollars for gas dues."
He stated that "the adoption of the emergency support law will enable us to pay the gas debts as of the beginning of next June, according to what we agreed upon with Iran," expressing his hope "to reach the production of 25 thousand megawatts per day with the arrival of gas flows from Iran to the agreed quantities."
Karim stressed that "domestic gas enables us to generate 3,500 megawatts per day, which is not enough."
Regarding the Turkish connection, Karim said that "the connection line with Turkey will be ready within a week," explaining that it "secures 300 megawatts."
And regarding the Gulf interconnection, Karim explained that "there are negotiations with the Gulf Interconnection Authority next week," noting that "the connection with Saudi Arabia will be in two phases of 500 and 1500 megawatts."
He continued, "We agreed with Qatar to provide us with quantities of gas in the winter," noting that "Qatari gas will reach us via ships and may start within months."
He pointed out that "the processing hours this summer will be better compared to its predecessor, and Iraq currently produces more than 21 thousand megawatts per day, and 7-8 thousand of them depend on Iranian gas." Ended 29 / p. 87
