    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

2% of Iraqi children are spread in the labor market despite the strict laws and penalties, but these laws are not stronger than the poverty that drives them to leave school and join work on the street.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is reviewing five measures to eliminate the phenomenon of child labor, including allocating social welfare salaries to a number of families to prevent the employment of their children.

The Director General of Labor and Vocational Training in the Ministry, Raed Jabbar, said that “the problem of child labor is due to the economic situation, as most poor families push their children to work under difficult economic conditions,” noting that “the Ministry of Labor, in cooperation with UNICEF and Labor, seeks to reduce the phenomenon of labor force.” children".
He added, "There are inspection teams from the ministry that campaign against employers to ensure the existence of child labor," noting that "according to the Labor Law, any employer who employs children under the legal age is referred to the Labor Court."
He stated, “On the occasion of the International Day against Child Labor, the ministry launched a large campaign in Baghdad and the governorates to educate families and employers about the seriousness of this issue and distributed leaflets on it,” noting that “the ministry has counted a large group of families and submitted them to the Minister of Labor, who agreed to grant them.” Salaries in return for the family head’s pledge not to employ his children, and children were returned to schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
And he indicated that "reducing child labor requires large financial allocations, new programs and awareness programs, reintegrating children into educational institutions, and developing the economic situation of the family."

And the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq estimates the rate of child labor in it at 2%, and a member of the Commission, Ali Al-Bayati, indicates that the number of working children in the country reaches more than 700,000 children, at a time when the United Nations Children’s Fund “reports that about 90% of children Iraqis do not have the opportunity to obtain early education, and despite the increase in the rate of children's enrollment in primary education at the level of 92%, the completion of the primary level among children of poor families does not exceed 54%.

According to the latest UNICEF statistics, a third of Iraqi children are going through difficult economic conditions that put them in front of work requirements to support their families, and show that Iraqi children face the highest increase in poverty rates, as there are two poor children out of every 5 children.
