Hussein Talib, Director General of the Oil Products Distribution Company, said, "The ministry reassures citizens that there is no crisis and that there are sufficient quantities of fuel as a strategic stockpile."
He added, "The Ministry of Oil is able to secure the entire quantity that secures the local need for fuel, and daily the supplied quantities reach 31 million liters, 16 million of which are imported in hard currency to meet that need, while the rest is produced by the country's refineries."
On the reasons for the increased pressure of vehicles on stations, Talib stressed that "the increase in car queues in front of gas stations is due to a number of points, including the increase in consumption in the summer by 30%, according to what we have recorded compared to the rest of the seasons, as well as the increase in the number of vehicles in Iraq."
He added, "In the latest statistics of the General Traffic Directorate, it showed that there are more than two and a half million tires in the capital, Baghdad alone, and all of these need daily fuel, and there is additional consumption due to the decline in the hours of electricity supply and the fact that citizens depend on gasoline to run home generators."
He pointed out that "there is another important reason is the difference in the price of gasoline between the provinces of the region and the rest of the neighboring provinces, as drivers supply fuel from Kirkuk and Nineveh because the price differs from them compared to fuel prices in the Kurdistan region."
He pointed out that "the issue of Kirkuk has been resolved through the application of the fuel card system for its citizens, and we are continuing this matter to circulate it in Nineveh, and there is a timetable until next July 1, after which the processing will be done exclusively according to the fuel card."
And on the possibility of circulating the fuel card experience to the rest of the provinces, the Director General of the Oil Products Distribution Company stated that “it is currently applied in the provinces adjacent to the Kurdistan region as a result of the increasing demand due to the price difference, and that the project to circulate it to the rest of the provinces is purely organizational purpose to ensure the citizen’s right to equip and know the actual amount of processing.” And it will not be rationing and limiting the quantities of fuel supplied to citizens, and they will supply fuel whenever they wish.” Ended 29 / p. 87
