Shafaq News/ The Integrity Commission of Kurdistan Region concluded today, Sunday, an agreement with the United Nations Development Program "UNDP" to combat corruption in all its forms in the region.
The head of the commission, Judge Ahmed Anwar, said in a press conference held on the sidelines of the signing of the memorandum, which was attended by Shafak News Agency, that "the region has intensified cooperation with the organization in programs, including developing the capabilities of anti-corruption institutions specialized in commercial arbitration, funded by the European Union."
He pointed out that "there is another program to investigate crimes of financial corruption funded by the United States of America, under the supervision and sponsorship of the United Nations Development Organization."
He added that "all workshops and special events to implement the anti-corruption strategy will be implemented with the support and funding of the organization."
Judge Anwar added that "certainly, this agreement opens wide horizons for our work and activities," noting that "the goal of everyone is to support the radical reform carried out by the regional government at the joints of official departments and institutions, and the anti-corruption strategy approved by the government last September."
He went on to say, "It is true that international organizations support us, but the fight against corruption is a national issue that falls on our shoulders," stressing that "we in the Kurdistan Region should work seriously on it because the risks of corruption are wide and multiple, and there is a national consensus to combat it."
For her part, the representative of the United Nations Development Program "UNDP", Zina Ali, explained during the conference that "the agreement aims to strengthen joint cooperation between the two parties to enhance integrity and combat corruption in the region in particular, by strengthening the legislative, institutional and strategic framework and capacity building."
She added that "the signing of the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of continuous and very fruitful cooperation between the United Nations Development Program, the Kurdistan Region and the Integrity Commission to enhance economic and social development efforts in the region."
She pointed out that "the program's cooperation with the Integrity Commission and the relevant authorities in many distinguished initiatives in the field of promoting integrity, combating corruption and commercial arbitration on very important issues by developing the work environment in the public and private sectors, enhancing the work environment and national investment, and attracting more foreign investments."
Ali praised the efforts of the Kurdistan Integrity Commission for the recent achievements to develop and strengthen the legal and institutional frameworks to enhance integrity, as well as the adoption of the anti-corruption strategy in the region, which is an important and major step in the field of strengthening national efforts in this field, and I would also like to congratulate the Kurdistan Regional Government. for its success in enacting specialized laws that are very important in national efforts to combat corruption.”
