Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Planning announced, on Wednesday, that it has begun preparing the third strategy to address poverty in the country, and support the agricultural sector in a way that contributes to achieving this goal.
In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the ministry's media office stated that the Minister of Planning Khaled Batal Al-Najm chaired the second meeting of the Permanent Technical Committee for Poverty Reduction Policies, in the presence of the Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Labor and Social Affairs, Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, representatives of ministries and relevant authorities, to discuss a strategy The third poverty in Iraq.
He indicated that this strategy will focus on greatly supporting the agricultural sector, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, after reviewing what was achieved in the previous two strategies, and identifying the reasons that led to the failure to implement all the programs and policies included in those strategies.
During the meeting, the star pointed out that the ministry will study the real causes of poverty in light of the existence of the social protection network and the ration card, as well as the presence of a large number of employees in state institutions, and the job opportunities provided by the private sector are not few.
He pointed out that "poverty in Iraq is not related to income as much as it is related to other dimensions related to economic and social aspects, including education, health, and housing, and therefore the strategy aims to enable the poor to access these basic services."
And the Minister of Planning that "the financial allocations for the implementation of poverty reduction policies and programs are still few and do not cover the required, and therefore we need to increase these allocations, and find multiple sources of funding."
He stressed that "the ministry has completed a number of housing complexes in several governorates, and they have been distributed to poor families, according to high standards, in addition to the continuation of work on implementing the Social Fund for Development projects in the poorest villages and areas, and there is a program of loans provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs to the unemployed." the work".
Al-Najm said that "the preparations have been completed to start implementing the economic and social survey of the family in Iraq, which lasts for 12 months and includes all the provinces and districts of Iraq, and the outputs of this survey will represent important inputs for the third poverty strategy, for the next five years."
During the meeting, according to the statement, a roadmap for preparing the third poverty alleviation strategy was discussed, and the tasks of the committees concerned with preparing the strategy were discussed, as well as a discussion of the form for distributing low-cost homes for poor families.
