Baghdad / Obelisk: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee set, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, the date for the legislation of the Science Service Law, while indicating the direction to amend the laws on drug crimes and information crimes.
Committee member, Representative Nayef Al-Shammari, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the science service law is one of the most prominent laws that will be legislated during the second legislative term of the House of Representatives," stressing that "the law will be legislated this year."
He added, "The first amendment to the Drug Crimes Law and the Information Crimes Law will also be made."
The Ministry of Defense had previously clarified the details of the mandatory service law submitted to the House of Representatives, especially with regard to its terms and proposed salaries for conscripts, while stressing the military institution's need for new blood.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Major General Yahya Rasoul, told Al-Iraqiya News, and it was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ministry has completed the compulsory service law and it was presented in the Council of Ministers and submitted to the House of Representatives and its approval is very important because Iraq needs young people who defend the country in the face of challenges."
He added, "The Compulsory Service Law proposed a monthly salary for those covered by the service that may reach 700,000 dinars, and we in the Ministry of Defense have completed the implementation requirements and have infrastructure and training camps to absorb the new blood to supplement the armed forces through flag service."
And he added, "Compulsory service under the new law will not be the same as it was previously applied, and its periods will not be long, and whoever has an elementary certificate, the period of his service will differ from that of someone who obtained a higher certificate, such as intermediate, preparatory, and university."

He pointed out that "the application of compulsory service enjoys high acceptance in the Iraqi street, according to the referendums conducted, and we believe that there is a serious intention in the Parliamentary Security Committee to proceed with the completion of the proposed law in preparation for a vote on it."
He pointed out that "the compulsory service law does not abolish volunteering, and the young man can submit an application for volunteering, and frankly, the blood must be renewed because we have great ages in the military."
