Shafaq News/ Today, Saturday, citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the supply of electric power in the country and described the supply of some areas as "zero", while an economic expert pointed out the possibility of addressing the crisis in a scientific manner after stopping corruption operations and the intervention of politicians.
Citizens complain of the ministry's "deficiency"
Citizen Umm Ahmed, an employee in one of the state ministries, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency; "The Ministry of Electricity announces fictitious achievements, when the weather is mild, these achievements evaporate as soon as the heat enters," indicating that this situation we have been familiar with for years, and solutions are patchwork and do not work for a worn-out system.
The citizenship added that "the supply of electricity has become zero in some areas, and the ministry is unable to find a solution to the problem, which has become a dilemma for it."
For his part, the citizen Abu Raed said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "The ministry has become completely unable to find any solution to the electricity problem, and it has become a news item," noting that "Iraq has become begging for electricity from neighboring countries, some of which do not reach a quarter of Iraq's imports."
The citizen points out that "Iraq has spent billions of dollars on electricity throughout these years to no avail, and the money goes into the pockets of the corrupt, while those who have consumed electricity are tinkering with the electricity system, which shows its flaws in times of heat."
Corruption and political interference impede the solution
In turn, the economic expert, Basem Jamil Antoine, said in an interview with Shafak News Agency; "The problem of electricity in Iraq is not a dilemma, but rather requires a real will and effective follow-up and stopping the rampant corruption in the national electrical system," noting that "it is possible to solve it scientifically after curbing corruption and serious follow-up by clean agencies and preventing politicians from interfering in this process."
And Antoine adds that "estimates indicate that the sums spent on the electrical system exceeded 80 billion dollars, while Egypt solved the problem with less than these sums," noting that "if we invested the local energy from the gas produced in this process, we would have compensated for a lot of lost electricity." ".
Shafak News Agency tried to contact officials of the Ministry of Electricity to respond and clarify matters regarding electrical equipment and citizens' accusations, but the repeated calls were not answered until the time of preparing this report.
Several Iraqi provinces suffer from a major power outage, while some areas suffer from a complete power outage two days ago.
