The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemns the attack on a convoy of the Australian Embassy near the Green Zone
Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned, on Friday, the attack that targeted a convoy of the Australian Embassy near the Green Zone in Baghdad.
In a statement received by Shafak News Agency, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the incident, which affected a diplomatic wheel belonging to the Australian Embassy in Baghdad, which did not result in injuries."
He added, "As the ministry expresses its solidarity with the Australian side, it affirms its full commitment to the Vienna Convention regulating relations, to protect the cadres and buildings of diplomatic missions and to facilitate their work in a way that enhances the bonds of joint work."
Earlier in the day, a security source reported that an explosion occurred on the Qadisiyah area road leading to the Green Zone in Baghdad, without giving further details.
In this regard, the source told Shafaq News Agency, "According to the subsequent details, the bomb targeted a convoy of wheels belonging to the Australian Embassy, causing damage to one of them. No more details have yet been provided.
Later, he said, according to a security source, that a vehicle belonging to the Australian Embassy was damaged during the explosion, which occurred near the Green Zone in Baghdad.
