Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) - Gulf banks dominated the Forbes list of the 30 most powerful banks in the Middle East for 2022, and the Qatar National Bank (QNB) Group topped the first place with total assets of $300.3 billion. In second place is First Abu Dhabi Bank, with total assets of $272.4 billion.
The Forbes list ranked the 30 most powerful banks by money market according to market capitalization, revenue, total assets, and net profit for 2021. Each criterion was given equal relative weight, and banks with an equal number of points received the same rating.
According to the list, banks in the Middle East and North Africa managed to overcome the Corona crisis, as the total assets of the largest listed banks in the Middle East amounted to $2.5 trillion by the end of 2021, while profits exceeded $34 billion. The total market capitalization of 30 banks increased to $587 billion according to market closures on June 28, 2022, an increase of 23%.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the most represented on the list with 10 and 7 banks, respectively, followed by Qatar with 4 and Morocco with 3 banks.
Here, in the video above, the ranking of the 10 most powerful banks in the Middle East for 2022, according to the Forbes list.
