    The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities announced, on Sunday, the completion of structural work for school building projects, while indicating that the start of the second phase of the project is dependent on a single procedure.
    The director of the National Center for Engineering Consultations in the ministry, Hassan Meddeb, told the official news agency, "The first phase of the national project for school buildings includes 1,000 schools distributed among all the governorates of Iraq, where it has reached advanced stages. The structural work is almost complete in most governorates."
    He added, "The next stage will start with the work of the external and internal finishes," noting that "the executive works are going according to the time schedule set in advance."
    He stressed, "the determination to complete 100 schools by the end of this year, and hand them over to the Ministry of Education, and they will enter service during the next year," noting that "the National Center for Engineering Consultations has begun to complete the designs for the second phase of the national school project, which amounts to 3,000 schools distributed throughout the country."
    He continued, "These designs were completed and handed over to the Higher Committee for School Construction headed by Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and currently we are waiting for the governorates to hand us over the entire plots of land allocated for the second phase, after which we take serious steps with the assignment work and then implementation, which will be within the framework of the Iraqi-Chinese agreement," explaining "The companies that will build schools for the second stage have not been determined. The issue will be raised by the Higher Committee for School Construction, and according to the decision it issues: Either it will be referred to the Chinese companies themselves or to other companies."
    He pointed out that "the most advanced governorates of 1,000 is the Nineveh governorate, where the structural works are almost finished in most of the governorate's schools, in addition to the direct electrical, plumbing and air conditioning works have become clear in the sites, and very soon there will be internal and external finishing works for the governorate's schools." .
    He continued by saying: "As for the rest of the schools in the governorates, the works are proceeding according to the timetable set for them, and no deviation was recorded in the project, as all the sites designated for building schools within the first phase have works in varying proportions, and any administrative, legal and technical obstacle does not exist."
    He pointed out, "The project of 1,000 schools is progressing at a steady pace, and the launch of the second phase of schools will not hinder the first phase," noting that "when the allocation of plots of land in Baghdad and the provinces is completed, we will start the second phase and the two phases will proceed at the same pace."
    Meddeb stressed that "there is no connection between the stages of establishing schools," explaining that "when we start the second stage and prepare the lands and designs for the third stage, we can start with the first and second stages together."
