Shafaq News/ A deputy from the Sovereignty Alliance confirmed, on Tuesday, that Parliament is proceeding to elect the President of the Republic in Thursday's session that was set for this purpose, while a representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party suggested postponing the session until the two Kurdish parties agree on a candidate for the presidency.
The representative of the Sovereignty Alliance, Ahmed Mazhar, told Shafaq News Agency, "We will proceed with the election of the president of the republic in the next session, which may be on Thursday or next Saturday, whether the Kurds agree on a specific candidate or not, and the important thing is to go to the presidential election session." .
He stressed that "the formation of the new government has become necessary after none of the current ministers who established empires for themselves and did not provide services to the people as much as serving themselves were questioned."
In turn, the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Parliamentary bloc, Sherif Suleiman, told Shafaq News Agency, "There is no final agreement between the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the political forces on the candidate for the post of President of the Republic, despite the Parliament's setting a date for the parliament session to elect the President of the Republic." .
He pointed out that "there may be changes during the two days before Thursday's session, but I think it is likely that the presidential election session will be postponed to another date until the political forces agree."
