The Ministry of Planning revealed housing projects for poor families in a number of governorates within the poverty strategy it launched.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a statement to the official newspaper, "The ministry has completed five housing complexes for poor families in the governorates of Muthanna, Diwaniyah, Wasit, Kirkuk and Anbar as a first stage," noting that "work is continuing to complete the rest of the complexes in all governorates."
Al-Hindawi added, "The rates of completion vary in housing projects in the rest of the governorates," stressing that "the conditions that the country has suffered from since 2014 have prevented the speed of completion."
He explained, "Poverty rates are different from one governorate to another, but the ministry has adopted approximately 10 criteria to include poor families in these housing units in all governorates that are submitted for inclusion through the website, including the number of children and their ownership of a residential house or plot of land and the presence of income to support them and others. Standards are provided for the family to enter the competition.”
Al-Hindawi stressed the ministry's efforts "to implement these projects and help poor families, given that housing is the most important obstacle facing families in general and poor families in particular, due to the rise in rent allowances on the one hand, and the housing crisis due to the high number of residents on the other hand."
