Shafaq News / Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Planning revealed a decline in the population growth rate in Iraq, while it expected the population to reach 42 million by the end of this year.
"The population of Iraq at the end of the year 2021 amounted to 41,150,000," said the ministry's spokesman, Abdul Zahra al-Hindawi, in an interview with Shafaq News agency. "It is expected that the population of Iraq will reach 42 million at the end of 2022."
Al-Hindawi added, "Population growth has begun to decline in Iraq, as it currently stands at 2.5 percent, after it was more than 3 percent 10 years ago," noting that "the cumulative population increase is still high."
Al-Hindawi pointed out that "the decline in population growth rates came as a result of increasing awareness among families as a result of the improvement in the level of education for the family, which created an understanding of the requirements of life, and this was reflected in the number of family members."
An American website that deals with the population census revealed that "it is expected that the population of Iraq will now be 44.856 million people," noting that the population growth in Iraq will continue to exceed the end of the century with a population of more than 107 million people.
