Today, Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudanese reassured the Iraqis that the rise in prices is "a temporary matter," while indicating that the government will not tolerate those who try to harm the citizen's livelihood.

Al-Sudanese said in a speech during the announcement of the launch of the food basket for those included in the social protection network, that “one of the government’s priorities is to fight the phenomenon of poverty, and we have used measures to reduce it, noting that "the cabinet took a decision to improve the items of the food basket for the families of the social protection network." .

He added that "securing this basket in quantity and quality addresses poverty for these families," noting that "previous governments have taken decisions to improve the items of the basket, but the current government has worked to implement that to reduce the effects of changing the exchange rate and rising prices.”

He continued, "There are those who took advantage of the case of the high exchange rate, and it is not a government decision, but rather an agreement between government agencies and the Central Bank," reassuring "the citizen that the price hike is a temporary matter and we are working to preserve money and prevent smuggling.

He pointed out, "We will work to provide all the citizen's needs in the markets through the Ministry of Commerce, which provides us with a list and we import them," stressing, "We will not tolerate those who try to harm the citizen's livelihood .”

And he stressed that "decisions have been taken against those who try to speculate and influence the market and commodity prices in legal ways," noting that "the departments that have been assigned to the Central Bank and the Iraqi Trade Bank possess skills and will work to reduce the rise in exchange rates.”

He stated that "there are merchants who have a sense of patriotism and will work on importing foodstuffs in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce in order to help citizens and confront speculators," explaining that "more than 5 million families within social protection will be distributed to them in the additional basket.”

And that "the state provides support to the citizen and social protection beneficiaries."
