    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

The Committee on Oil, Gas and Natural Resources in the House of Representatives reviews the importance of raising the production of refineries, speaking that raising the production capacity of Iraq from refining will save about 1.5 billion dollars that are depleted annually in importing it.
Committee member Zainab Al-Moussawi said that the Ministry of Oil seeks to increase the number of new refineries and rehabilitate the old ones, noting that there are currently 14 refineries in Iraq, two of which are under construction, one in Al-Faw district in Basra and the other within Al-Anbar governorate.
She added that the total production capacity of the operating refineries reaches one million and 336 thousand barrels per day, and with the introduction of the Karbala refinery, the production capacity will increase to the extent that will reduce the import of oil derivatives, which will add to the budget from one billion to one billion and 500 million dollars, which were drained annually in importing them.
This figure, which the Oil and Gas Committee is talking about, is equivalent to only 30% of what Iraq spends to import oil derivatives, which amounted to more than $5.3 billion in 2022.
According to SOMO statistics, gasoline topped the list of imports of oil derivatives to Iraq during the past year 2022, as gasoline accounted for 80% of all imported oil derivatives during the past year, which was represented by gasoline, gas oil and kerosene.
According to SOMO data, “the imported quantities of petroleum products during the past year 2022 amounted to 5 billion and 299 million and 817 thousand and 129 dollars.”
According to the data, the imported oil derivatives were gasoline, kerosene and gas oil, as imports of gasoline amounted to 3.69 million tons, with a financial value of $3.87 billion.
As for gas oil, its quantity amounted to 1.19 million tons, with a financial value of $1.2 billion, and kerosene amounted to more than 167,000 tons, with a financial value of more than $159 million.
The total imported quantities amounted to more than 4.5 million tons, while gasoline alone accounted for 80% of the oil derivatives, and more than 73% of the cost of imported oil derivatives during the past year.
On the other hand, imported gasoline accounted for 33% of the total gasoline consumed last year, amounting to more than 11 million tons.
Imported gas oil represented 10% of the total gas oil consumed in 2022, amounting to about 10 million tons.
As for kerosene, the percentage of imported kerosene from the consumer represented 16% of the total kerosene consumed in 2022, amounting to about one million tons.
In total, the total amount of imported derivatives amounting to 4.5 million tons, offset by the consumed quantities of these derivatives in 2022, in quantities amounting to 21 million tons, which means that the imported derivatives accounted for 22% of the total consumption of these derivatives in 2022.
