The US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, ended his unannounced visit to Baghdad, during which he met with Iraqi officials, declaring his country's commitment to partnership with Iraq and its government, as Austin left Iraq for Egypt, according to what was revealed by Reuters International News Agency.
Reuters said, according to what it translated (Baghdad Today), that "the US Secretary of Defense arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where he was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to announce the start of a round of talks through which the United States is trying to "emphasize" its role in the region. agency.
And she continued, "Al-Sisi took over the administration of Egypt after a military coup against the former democratic regime and put pressure on liberal critics and his Islamist opponents inside the country," explaining, "Human organizations are talking about tens of thousands of illegal detainees inside Egypt, where they are forced to stay in long periods of detention." without bringing them before the judges.
A US official, who refused to reveal his identity, confirmed to the agency that the Minister of Defense "will open the file of human rights and the basic rights of individuals during his conversation with the Egyptian president," noting that "Washington stopped part of the military and humanitarian aid it provides to Egypt as a means of pressure on the Sisi government."
