Today, Friday, the Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence clarified the fact that the European Union objected to the new electronic passport.
The Director General of the Directorate, Major General Riyadh Jundi Al-Kaabi, said in a press statement followed by the National News Center: “The European Union did not object to the new electronic passport,” pointing out that “the circulation of this news is a fabrication by some websites.”
He stressed that "the new passport is now approved by the World Aviation Organization, which gives the degree of approval of the passport," noting that "Iraq has obtained an official letter from the International Aviation Organization approving the electronic passport."
Al-Kaabi continued, "The Civil Status Directorate currently has about 350,000 passport copies, and 500,000 copies have now arrived," noting that "500,000 electronic passports will arrive at the beginning of next month, and after that, a million new passports will arrive."

He noted that "the old passport will not stop working with it, only those whose passports expire will be issued a new one," stressing that "it is not possible to forfeit a passport for 20 million citizens."
Last month, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani opened the electronic passport window, while he followed the steps and mechanisms of issuance in all its details, and supervised the issuance of the first electronic passport copy in Iraq.

Al-Sudani stressed that "the electronic passport is issued to citizens within one day."
